From Blueprint To Reality
In 2025, two of our district's Career Technical Education (CTE) centers combined at 100 Midland Ave., providing space to increase our enrollment as we develop hybrid programs and a skilled workforce to meet industry demands in our community.
Spaces in the former Herald-Leader building, which Fayette County Public Schools fully renovated, include administration areas on each floor for easier student support, labs and classrooms, and collaborative breakout areas. The building also features energy-efficient designs, which are a priority for our district.
Students took the lead in shaping their learning spaces - choosing classroom seating, designing flexible shared spaces, and selecting materials that enhance collaboration and creativity. Students also contributed to other key decisions, ensuring a school built for and by them.
The HILL didn’t appear overnight. It was shaped through decades of career and technical education, a bold community vision, and a commitment to preparing students for the future.
1976-1978
A Legacy Begins
Eastside and Southside Technical Centers open their doors, preparing generations of Fayette County students for careers through hands-on technical education.
2021
A Bold Vision Takes Shape
A $10 million state modernization grant launches a new vision for career and technical education. Soon after, Fayette County Public Schools acquires the historic Lexington Herald-Leader building, creating a centralized home for innovative learning.
2022-2025
Reimagining a Landmark
The former Herald-Leader building was reimagined as The HILL, a 172,378-square-foot hub for innovative learning, designed to bring together advanced career pathways, industry partnerships, and collaborative learning under one roof.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Students, educators, industry partners, and community leaders gather to celebrate the completion of The HILL and the beginning of a new chapter in workforce education.

First Day of School
The first class of students arrives, bringing together learners from across Fayette County to begin hands-on experiences in high-demand career pathways.
