FCPS Opens New Doors at The HILL

Fayette County Public Schools has thrown open the doors to an amazing new career and technical education (CTE) center where high school students will thrive in state-of-the-art classrooms, industry-driven programs, and targeted pathways designed to prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow.

“We’re turning the page to a bold new chapter,” Principal Michelle Wilson said at the ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony. “We are redefining what CTE can be.”

Situated near downtown Lexington, The Hub for Innovative Learning & Leadership (The HILL) will provide access to emerging technologies, expert mentors, and real-world projects where curious and creative students from across FCPS can explore their passions, develop their skills, and create a unique future all their own. Among the opportunities are nearly 40 dual-credit classes, 19 CTE pathways, and preparation for some two dozen high-demand industry certifications.

Student leadership team members Zain Eary and Axel Donehue thanked the district and the community for supporting the vision. “This moment shows students are seen, heard, and invested in,” Axel said.

Superintendent Demetrus Liggins, school board members, and Mayor Linda Gorton joined Wilson, a group of student ambassadors, and hundreds of community guests to celebrate The HILL. “The most common word I’ve heard this morning is ‘Wow!’” board Chair Tyler Murphy said before the crowd fanned out for self-guided tours of the four-story building at 100 Midland Ave.

“This is a clear demonstration of what’s possible,” Murphy said. “This campus is not just a school. It’s a legacy. We’re equipping students not just to face the future but to transform it.”

Liggins agreed, calling The HILL a bridge to our nation’s future workforce. “We must prepare our students for a future that is changing rapidly,” Liggins said. “We want them to not only thrive here but be leaders and innovators. I’m excited about what’s to come!”
